CO2 : Carbon Dioxide
CO2: Carbon Dioxide cleaning was hailed as the wonder process when it came onto the scene a few years ago. Consumer Reports tested various methods of cleaning and found CO2 providing the best results. However, being put to the test of regular cleaning in the field under various conditions revealed it to be a poor cleaner and far too expensive compared to other processes. Most garments cleaned this way had to be re-cleaned in another, follow-up process to get them to an acceptable condition. Another alternative to make CO2 work as a cleaner was to add another step to the process to increase the cleaning effect. This is what Solvair did. Solvair is another process altogether that utilizes propylene glycol ether to do the cleaning and CO2 to rinse the solvent from the garments. The only problem with this is that little is know about the effects of propylene glycol ether but what is known is not good. It is toxic, and suspected of much more. Only time and study with reveal the truth about this solvent. While environmentally safe, it is extremely expensive and yields poor results. Many cleaners that elected this process have since switched to another, more effective cleaning process. >Consumer Alert Call: (212) 629-6200; (516) 624-2020; toll free (888) 221-3422
